About Us

OUR HISTORY
Red Ribbon Project was established in 1996 as a nonprofit organization in response to the growing need for HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention, education and support.

As the organization evolved, RRP saw the opportunity to provide HIV/AIDS awareness and education to the youth of Eagle County, starting with offering one HIV 101 class in 1998. This evolved into offering a curriculum of 16 classes on a variety of subjects; including Puberty, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), Interpersonal Relationships, Gender Bias in the Media, and Bullying.

In 2002, funding was available through Eagle County Health and Human Services.  RRP applied for a grant to implement a Latino Skills Building program to Eagle County middle and high school students. Mari Plaza-Munet, a Health Educator, was asked to design the classes. In 2002-2003 school year, RRP taught over 200 Latino students. In 2007, RRP expanded the program to all youth in Eagle County, not just Latino youth. The first year, we taught over 2,000 students. Several partners including the Eagle River Youth Coalition and Eagle County Public Health helped teach classes.

In 2011, RRP began to initiate work on decreasing teen pregnancy in our community. As one of the only organizations addressing teen pregnancy in Eagle County, RRP is very aware of the growing concern of Latino girls at risk for pregnancy.

OUR MISSION
Red Ribbon Project empowers the community to reduce teen pregnancy, HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections. We promote healthier lives by empowering the community to reduce teen pregnancy, HIV/AIDS and other STIs.

OUR VISION
Red Ribbon Project envisions a community that values sexual health and well-being.
